The Nest

Day 14: I know that many of you will wonder why I would find a weathered birds nest as paint worthy... but this nest has been a daily part of my life since early November. I spotted it shortly after a wind storm had stripped the last remaining amber leaves off of the trees. I walk by this little red maple every day on my way to the studio, but It was that cold, damp November day that I noticed the nest. Every day after that, I’d look up and see subtle changes, as nature started naturally antiquing the little nest. Snow would fill it, leaving it with a soft white hat and frost would leave it lined with diamonds. On days that saw a quick thaw and freeze, it dripped with sparkling ice. It amazed me at its resilience, storms that brought down trees and knock out electric, left the little nest unmoved. Today as I painted, this nest was blessed with a visitor. The circle continues.
